We are glad you asked! We are different from most rescue organizations (and shelters) in many ways.
1. All of our rescue dogs come with training and extensive socialization. Our dogs learn manners, obedience, boundaries, rules, structure, impulse control, proper interactions with other dogs, and so much more!
2. Due to our extensive experience with dog training and behavior, we offer expert "matchmaking". We don't believe in adopting dogs out based solely on looks. We take time getting to know our pups before we allow meet and greets. This allows us to help make the best matches possible. We consider the dogs' age, size, breed(s), energy level, temperament, level of training, AND compare that with the humans' lifestyle. This helps ensure successful adoptions that last a lifetime.
3. We do not prematurely spay and neuter our dogs. This allows them to develop naturally and helps keep them healthier. We do not alter any dogs in our care that are under 1 year old.
4. We do take owner surrenders (case by case), but we require that the dogs are UTD on vaccinations prior to entering our facility. This ensures the safety of all dogs in our care. We may also require that the owner pay a surrender fee (this allows us to pay our staff to train our rescue dogs) and puts some responsibility on the human(s).
5. Everything that we do with our dogs, has a training and behavior mentality behind it. You will not have to undo bad behaviors that humans have created.
6. We only take a limited number of dogs at a time, so that we are able to dedicate enough time to each dog to ensure that they are successful.
7. We send all of our rescue dogs him with a fresh groom!
8. A lot of rescue organizations pull dogs from southern states. Although we see the need for this, our primary goal is to help humans and dogs that are already in our area. This ensures that we have availability when the need arises.
9. We DO NOT adopt littermates out to the same household (no exceptions).
10. Every choice that we make is in the best interest of our dogs.
We have a powerful group of women running our organization!
Jenny founded LK9RR in the hopes of "doing rescue" differently. Jenny is a certified Canine Training and Behavior Specialist. Jenny has worked with over 50 rescue organizations during her professional dog career. She has always had a passion for helping rescue dogs - but knew there was a "better" way of doing things. Her solution was to provide trained rescue dogs for adoption and "match" dogs to humans based on the temperament and energy levels of the dogs, and the lifestyles of the humans. Jenny owns and operates a boarding and training facility (Liberty K9, LLC), is a disabled veteran, former police officer and horse lover! All five of Jenny's personal dogs are rescues! Jenny's husband, Joe, and her bonus daughter, Zoey, are a huge part of our rescue!
Cassandra is Liberty K9's original employee! She has been with us for over 5 years. Cassandra trains dogs daily, coordinates surrenders, adoptions, appointments, lessons and so much more! Cassandra has 4 rescue dogs of her own - 3 of which she adopted through LK9/LK9RR! Cash, Molly, Kiko & Marvin spend just as much time at LK9 as Cassandra does! They help provide distractions during training sessions, playmates during off-leash walks and more. Cassandra is an incredibly hard-worker and talented trainer! She does an amazing job with all of our rescue pups!
Kelsey has worked at Liberty K9, LLC for over 2 years as a Kennel Technician and an Assistant Manager. Kelsey quickly showed us her love for dogs, her patience, and her interest in dog training. Kelsey interned with the training department for several months and is now a training assistant! Kelsey works closely with each rescue dog to ensure they become the best versions of themselves. Kelsey is dedicated to ensuring each pup gets what they need, and they all love her! Kelsey also has an impeccable attention to detail when it comes to the health and well-being of our rescue dogs!
BilliJo is the GM at Liberty K9, LLC and has a soft spot for all of the rescue pups that have come through our doors. BilliJo has a very soft/calm presence, and fearful dogs seem to warm up to her extra quickly! BilliJo has 4 rescue dogs of her own! She spends extra time encouraging our pups to come out of their shells and to trust humans. Billijo also has an impeccable attention to detail when it comes to the health and well-being of our pups! She will go to any length to ensure each pup is receiving what they need.
Miss Bridget, as we call her, originally started as a daycare and training client at Liberty K9 several years ago. During those years, she and Jenny became friends, which turned into Miss B officially becoming a party of the LK9 family. Miss Bridget has had several rescue dogs of her own and currently has 2 - Joey & Dolly. Bridget is a phenomenal human that has a true passion for dogs. She spends extra time caring for our rescues, playing with them, bathing them, loving them, walking them, taking care of their medical needs and more!
Lori is a professional groomer at Liberty K9, LLC. Lori has owned many rescue dogs in her life and just adopted another! She also has a passion for helping the lower confidence and fearful pups that come through our doors. She is also the one who does most of our 'complicated' rescue grooming! Lori also helps with a lot of "behind the scenes" items as well as parades, events, fundraising and more!
Jessie has an extensive background in dog and horse rescue. She used to run a rescue of her own, but after many years (decades), she decided she needed to take a break. Jessie is the perfect addition to our team, as she has so much experience in the rescue world. Jessie has helped countless rescue dogs and horses find homes. Jessie has 11 dogs - 7 of which are rescues!
